- Know you share the same questions, concerns, needs and wants with youth worldwide.
- Join in. Volunteer. Become part of the growing online youth movement.
- Lead with your strengths. Discover what you best and consistently apply it to all your efforts and relationships.
- Make a plan. Set goals and work toward achieving a dream.
- Surround yourself with people who will make you a better person.
- Think positively. It’s easy to get caught up in negative thinking but you will achieve more when you see the positive.
- Think of the whole world as your home. Don’t limit your dreams to your own backyard. You can literally access the entire world today.
- Learn as much as you can about the Internet and making computers work. This will help you no matter what.
- Don’t feel you have to experience all of life at once. There are many opportunities for different kinds of relationships. Sex and marriage are big responsibilities that can get in the way of your goals. It doesn’t hurt to wait.
- Join some online youth organizations, make some new friends in different countries and get your questions about youth around the world answered on the Internet.
- Be careful how you present yourself online. What you say and do will follow you to create your online reputation and colleges and others will judge you by what they see about you online.
- Stay in school as long as possible. School matters. If you can’t be in school, then continue to educate yourself over the Internet.
- Become aware of youth trends around the world so you can know what your generation is like everywhere.
- Listen to the advice of people older than you are. Find a trusted mentor to show you important things in life. You can find someone who you see often or online.
- Be a role model to your friends. Talk well of others, listen to people when they talk to you and try to promote peace and kindness. When you do this, you automatically become a leader.
- Speak out when you see something that is wrong, unjust or goes against your morals and values.
- Make choices wisely. Taking time to weigh your options, talk with trusted advisors and think things through before you make big decisions will help you stay on the right path in life.
- Discover your strengths. Everyone has something that motivates them that they are interested in. These are called strengths and they are what will ultimately make your life happy when you are able to do work that engages them.
- Discover a cause you are passionate about and learn all you can about how to participate in it. The environment, water, food, children, animals … the possibilities for helping are endless.
- Develop a picture of what you want your life to look like 5, 10, 20 years from now and each day think of how you can achieve another step toward your goals.
- Practice being thankful for everything good in your life. Be thankful every day.
- If in doubt, search it out. There is so much information today at your fingertips about every topic in the world. Find out as much as possible to expand your horizons.
- Be healthy. Don’t smoke, have unsafe sex, take unnecessary health risks.
Treat others as you wish to be treated. How you act toward others will determine whether or not you are successful, a leader, or get a ahead in life.
