Agriculture: Checklists
- Make sure to turn off your irrigation all the way to save water.
- Save your food scraps and other biodegradable items to use a compost.
- Store farm products the correct way as pests can infect them and reduce their market value.
- Keep good records on your inventory of crops, employees, revenue, and liabilities each month.
- Weed on a weekly basis to keep your soil fertile and less likely to become contaminated by pests or disease.
- Use cover crops to shield your soil from the sun when it gets very hot for extended periods of time.
- When using pesticides, make sure they are labeled properly and stored in a different location than your crops.
- Make sure to always wash fruits and vegetables to ensure that pesticides are not ingested.
- When purchasing, poultry, beef or other types of meat, check to see if it says “anti-biotic” free on the packing.
- Save your extra seeds instead of throwing them away.
- Choose crops that grow well locally.
- Plant a variety of crops to reduce the chances for total loss during drought.
